01
shoot the breeze
to talk to someone about something unimportant
When Americans "shoot the breeze," they talk about unimportant things
E.g.
We were seated on the bench until late last night, just shooting the breeze.
They chew the fat , shoot the breeze and swap anecdotes about random subjects : work, family, news, weather, hobbies, etc.
02
sounds like a broken record
Consequently...
If somebody sounds like a broken record, it means he or she is repeating himself or herself .
E.g.
My mother always sounds like a broken record and asks me to take care of myself when I am away from home.
03
take a hike
看到這個詞組,我想很多學生都會以為是go hiking 的意思,其實它的解釋是:used for rudely telling someone to go away.
E.g.
Please take a hike while I'm sleeping, don't interrupt me!
