句子缺主語，填入不定代詞some（有些人）說。

根據圖1簡化句子後——

可判定此處動詞lose為謂語形式。應做時態語態判斷。
根據圖3，首先根據前後句，可確定“時”為過去。
這裡有個要命的without——withoutwhich：如沒有something即glass，則我們會……，可判斷“態”為未發生，因此為過去將來時wouldlose。
但是別急！！wewouldlose我們會失去什麼呢？顯然不妥。所以還需考慮語態：belost（不知所措）

此處check為非謂語動詞，進入圖3，根據搭配spend…doing,填入checking。
